At Dimensions, we're always happy to go beyond traditional uniform supply to help our customers solve unique challenges. Sometimes, that even means creating clothing for livestock.
When one of our contacts at Sainsbury's asked if we could source protective calf coats for newborn cattle during the winter months, our team embraced the challenge.
The request landed with Sainsbury's Account Manager Natalie, who quickly brought together our Sourcing and Technical teams to develop a practical solution.
"I love a challenge and this unusual request was definitely that," said Natalie. "When I first shared the idea with our Sourcing and Technical teams, there were a few smiles, but once they realised it was a genuine requirement, they immediately got to work."
Newborn calves are particularly vulnerable during colder months. Keeping them warm helps conserve energy, supports healthy growth and reduces the risk of illness during the early stages of life.
Fortunately, one of our trusted manufacturing partners already had experience producing equestrian products, allowing the project to progress quickly. After developing an initial design, the coats underwent a successful three to four-week farm trial before receiving approval for full production.
A substantial order was then manufactured and delivered in time for the winter calving season.
While this wasn't a typical workwear project, it demonstrated the same principles we apply to every customer partnership: listening carefully, solving problems and delivering on time. Natalie added:
"Just as we manage seasonal uniform requirements to keep wearers warm during winter, this project had similar timing challenges. The coats needed to arrive before the calves were born, so the whole team worked incredibly hard to make sure everything was delivered when it was needed. It has been a fantastic project and we're delighted to see it become an ongoing supply for the customer."
