Helping Asda Reduce Plastic Waste with Recycled Uniforms

Written by Dimensions | 11/18/20 8:00 AM

Reducing plastic waste is a priority for many organisations, and we're proud to work with our customers to develop uniform solutions that support their sustainability ambitions.

Working alongside Asda, we helped bring its sustainability vision to life by creating colleague uniforms made from 100% recycled materials for its first sustainability trial store in Middleton, Leeds.

The project formed part of Asda's wider commitment to helping customers reduce, reuse and recycle while exploring more sustainable ways of operating across its business.

Turning recycled materials into everyday workwear

Using recycled materials in uniform design helps give existing resources a new purpose while reducing the demand for virgin raw materials.

By creating garments from 100% recycled fabric, the project demonstrated how innovative product design can help reduce waste and lower the environmental impact of workplace clothing without compromising on quality or performance.

Hayley Brooks, Managing Director at Dimensions, said:

"We were delighted to support Asda's Creating Change for Better programme by providing uniform for its first sustainability store. We're excited about using this innovative sustainable solution because it not only helps divert plastic waste from landfill, but also reduces our reliance on petroleum-based raw materials for fabric production, helping to lower the overall carbon footprint of the garments."

Supporting our customers' sustainability goals

The uniforms were introduced as part of the trial store, with colleague feedback helping to inform future decisions about the wider uniform programme.

If adopted more widely, the initiative had the potential to save more than 30 tonnes of plastic each year, demonstrating how even everyday items such as uniforms can contribute to larger sustainability objectives.

Suzie Hardy, Sustainability Manager for Plastic & Packaging at Asda, said:

"We know that sustainable fashion and garment sourcing is something our customers and colleagues are really passionate about. It's fantastic that, with the support of Dimensions, our colleagues are now wearing uniforms made from 100% recycled materials. It reinforces our commitment to sustainability across every part of our business and operations."

Creating more sustainable uniform solutions

We're continually exploring new materials, technologies and manufacturing approaches that help our customers reduce their environmental impact.

From recycled fabrics to responsible sourcing and circular design, we're committed to developing uniform solutions that support organisations on their sustainability journey while delivering the quality, comfort and performance colleagues expect.
