Dimensions Partners with Hemingway Design on McDonald's Uniform

Dimensions partnered with renowned British design consultancy HemingwayDesign and sustainable fashion specialists Worn Again to create a fresh new uniform for McDonald's UK, combining contemporary design, practicality and employee feedback.

The collaboration brought together design expertise, garment manufacturing and wearer insight to develop a collection that reflected the evolving McDonald's brand while supporting employees in their day-to-day roles.

Designing a Modern Uniform

Over an 18-month development programme, Dimensions worked closely with Gerardine Hemingway MBE, Wayne Hemingway MBE, the HemingwayDesign team and McDonald's to create a uniform that was stylish, functional and fit for modern restaurant environments.

The resulting collection introduced a vibrant new colour palette and a contemporary look unlike anything previously worn across the McDonald's estate.

Shaped by Employees

A key part of the project's success was the involvement of McDonald's employees throughout the design process.

Wearers helped shape the final collection through:

  • Uniform trials
  • Employee surveys
  • Design competitions
  • Ongoing feedback

This collaborative approach ensured the final garments met the practical needs of restaurant teams while creating a uniform employees were proud to wear.

Launching on the World Stage

The new collection made its debut during the London 2012 Olympic Games, where it was introduced across the four McDonald's restaurants within the Olympic Park, including what was then the world's largest McDonald's restaurant.

Following its successful launch, the uniform was rolled out across more than 1,200 McDonald's restaurants throughout the UK during autumn 2012 and is now worn by over 97,000 employees.

Collaboration That Continues

The McDonald's programme demonstrated the value of combining innovative design, sustainable thinking and wearer engagement to create a successful corporate clothing solution.

The partnership between Dimensions and HemingwayDesign has continued beyond this project, with both organisations collaborating on further initiatives focused on delivering high-quality, customer-centred uniform solutions.
